Prior to forming c.a.s.e., Simona was a Mellon Post-Doctoral Scholar in the Dickinson College Community Studies Center and Environmental Studies Program and she served as a Research Scientist at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Science & Technology Studies Program.
In 2016, Simona was appointed by the Secretary of Transportation to serve a three-year term as a public safety advocate representative on the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration Working Group on Voluntary Information-Sharing.
